I keep losing my HDD??

Hi all

any ideas, from time to time my HDD (D drive - back up) disappears, i.e it no longer shows up in my computer.

I have recently installed daemon tools....which i considered to be the main cause...so i got rid of it...but still the issue persits...i went to trendmicro and ran a full system scan and it highlighted 1 problem...which i sorted...still got the issue....anyone seen this before?

btw...running vista 32 home

Computer Management
Disk Management


If one drive does not show with a drive number right click on it and use Add Drive Letter...


I think thats it?

is this hard drive usb if it is then its a power problem as the device is not getting the power it needs to power up.

If it's an internal drive :-

Check (change) power connector to it.

Check (change) data cable to it.

Lastly - suspect the drive itself.

If it's on power up that it isn't detected - then it may be slow starting, so that the BIOS doesn't oick it up - in this case try disbling "Quick Power on Test) - which results in a longer RAM test and gives the drive a bit more time to be found.
