I found my files - but they won't work properly

Thanks to everyone's help, I managed to find the majority of the videos that I lost from my camera. However, now whenever I try to open them I get this message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." I managed to open 2 of them, but they only play as audio files, despite saying that they are movie types. When I hover over the icons they display the size, which should be correct for the length of the videos.

Is there anything else I can do to get the visuals, or at least the audio files for the rest of the clips please?

Before you try anything else. Make a copy of all the files and only work with the copies then it won't matter if you mess any up as you can make another copy of the original to start again.

Try playing them in VLC player

Or K-Lite Codec Pack which contains loads of different codecs some of which are not in VLC or vice-versa.
