I can't download and install flash player !!!!

  bigal1808 20:49 31 Mar 2009

I've been trying to download and install flash player.
I must have had a previous version installed at some time, but I don't know where that went.
I need it for bbc i-player, etc.
I can get to the 'agree and install' button on the adobe page, then when I click it, I get the gold bar at the top, saying that I need to install the adobe downloader active x.
But, when I click on the gold bar, my Internet explorer freezes.
I'm running ie 8 with xp pro. I've also got zone alarm pro, avg 8,spybot and ad-aware all running.
I've tried changing the seetings in internet options, security, custom level, to allow active x to no avail.
Any advice would be greatly apprecxiated.

I assume, from the comment "I don't know where that went" that you cannot find it to uninstall.

CCleaner may be able to help you there, click here it's free.

I've had this in the past.

Download and run the uninstall utility for your OS, then try and download and run the setup program.

Always worked for me.

Try downloading it from this more straightforward site - make sure you get the correct version for your browser (IE or non-IE)

Gentlemen - thanks for all your advice.
I did find it, it was in docs and settings, although the folders were empty, so I deleted them.
I used sea-urchin's advice, and downloaded, no problem, from filehippo.com - and it works fine.
thanks again to you all.
