HP Scanner problem

I have an HP 7400C scanner with a document feed attachment on a Mesh PC running W98. It has suddenly started throwing up an error message when trying to scan to file. It behaves normally from pressing the 'file' button, selecting the folder to save the scan in but when pressing 'save' it says:
"Hptasksequencer caused an invalid page fault in module RPCRT4.DLL at 0197:701424b0".

By using the HP Precisionscan pro software button and scanning as a Bitmap or Tiff file it works (albeit very slowly and only does single page scans)but tring to use this route and saving as a PDF, it produces the same error message.

I have tried uninstalling the HP software and reinstalling without success.

Can anyone please help?

had problems with my 3400c after a format and reinstall, installed drivers from cd but kept getting a message that the scanner was not connected, downloaded the latest drivers and no problems sinc
