Friends dead hard drive has been replaced with a new 200Gb hard drive. He's also bough t a new copy of Windows XP.We've put the new drive in and started formatting the disk using the WinXP disk. NTFS (NOT quick) was selected. The format proceeds as normal but gets to 100% and then....Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk maybe damaged. How reliable is this message before we send the drive back?Going to test the drive in another PC first but the length of time it takes the best part of an hour to format the drive each time....Can this PC support a 200 Gb drive? Might that be the problem? The BIOS shows it ok.
FDisk-ed with old Win98 disk and then re-ran the WinXP disk. NTFS (Quick) format and all seems to be going ok......
Windows Xp fuly loaded and on it's third full scandisk. No problems now.
Seagate Boot Disk is reporting problems......
