HP laptop G6000, wireless stopped working

  morris948 21:35 13 Apr 2009

my daughters laptop can no longer connect to the wirelss LAN, the switch is on and the light is amber.
Things i have checked:
updated all drivers
checked device manager, and found that the broadcom WLAN hardware is not shown for some reason.
Removed the wirelss card and checked antenna connections and pc card connector.

Still no joy, my router is OK and other ps's connect OK.

Any ideas welcome please.

Sounds like card failure , best get another one , loads on eBay but make sure you get the correct size for your laptop ( mini PCI or mini PCI-e )

Buy a cheap USB dongle like I did when my PCMCIA slot stopped working, I use a WiFi Network Card in it up to it stopping

many thanks for your comments, is this a common problem that these WLAN cards fail

Im afraid it is very common on HP and COMPAQ laptops,if your laptop is out of warranty you could use a pcmcia card that plugs in the slot on the side of the laptop. If it is the broadcom wireless chip these are soldered to the motherboard and HP will recommend motherboard change.

Thanks baldydave
Thats a hell of a lot of complaints, i guess i will have to get a USB wireless LAN adaptor and hope that works.
