HP DVD840i Lightscribe

Originally, I had 2 DVD readers in my machine. They had been named as drives X & Y. X being a DVD re-writer and Y being purely a reader.

X stopped working, so I replaced it with a HP 840dvdi Lightscribe.

In the instructions, it says to install the drive, and then install the Nero software provided.

However, after physical installation, neither drive will recognise the disc (which I assume has the drivers), and I have a problem with the device being recognised in device manager.

Have tried the HP site to no avail.

Also, the Y drive has reverted to the letter E

Any ideas?

Didn't have the correct jumper settings!

Would click this as resolved, but the button sems to have disappeared.

Uninstall both drives in Device Manager and then reboot.

Windows should/will hopefully(!) reinstall the drives as D and E along with the basic Windows CDROM driver for each model.

The rewriter should be the Master and the ROM version the Slave (check jumpers at rear of each drive).

You should note that the rewriter, being D, may have to be used in certain situations such as running sfc/ scannow or whenever the D drive only is used.

Cheers Stuartli

Now that I have changed the jumper, it seems to be working just fine, and back as X and Y.

Just burning an image on my first disc now!

Pretty rubbish label burn. Think I'll stick to printable cds/dvds.
