HP dvd writer & cd writer 630c

  krsna 22:17 19 Mar 2007

On my HP pc the dvd writer, hp630c drive will only read or write dvds. Audio or rom discs will not read or write. Do you think that the cd laser has failed. Any cures or do I have to change the drive for a new one?
Also the PC is an HP Media Centre Pc with rounded case so I am not sure if a normal dvd writer will fit or will it have to be a hp 630c?

Take it out and have a look it may be a piece on the case with a normal drive fitted into it

Certainly sounds like the laser has gone.

Something to check before buying a new drive.

Open device manager ( widows key+pausebreask )

Hardware/ now scroll throught to ide ata/atapi controllers/expand the + key/ right click the drive and properties/now check DMA is enabled and not PIO.

Or use the DMA reset tool click here

Tried the DMA reset tool, but it made no difference.
The drive might be a normal drive just the HP computer casing is shaped.

So I think I will try & fit new drive.
