I have recently aquired this elderly but little used black only printer to do my text work
thus saving the photoprinter carts .
Having no software with I have set it up with Windows default driver for the device.
It prints fine with the odd exception that occasionally it will print a row a garbage across the middle of the document.
It takes the from of either a block of dots or a line of spurious characters over the line.

So How, Why and What is to be done?

Make sure you have a bi-directional printer cable - and set the BIOS for the parallel port to ECP. Also you can experiment with the other parallel port settings if you still have a problem.

If the cable came with the printer, many old cable were not bi-directional.
