Assuming your recovery disks are OK, choose 1). This will erase the partition which is naff all use in any case. You will then be asked to create a partition, click 'yes' and the disks should take you through the re-installation. If all else fails you can buy system restore disks from HP at around £30.

Hi, i think its not 'sensing the cd'.

try either

1- booting up with tapping f12/f11/f12 from startup and see if you can boot from cd/dvd

2- load up bios (tapping f1 from startup) then right arrow to boot then down arrow to boot priority then enter, then check if 1st boot device is something like DVD, if its HDD then highlight it, change it to DVD. then go down to second boot device change that (to whatever was first) and save and exit and see if that works.

The correct way to restore, and dont forget this will wipe all programs, and data, and reset your computer when it came out of the box

Have a read on HPs site click here
For these instructions.

In general you boot up with disc one in the drive.
My first try would be 4 let it try It may seem to be not working, but allow it time
and then try GANDALF <|:-)> suggestion

You can search "how do I make an xp disk/disc" or vista.

With a working pc "how to make a system image"

Use Acronis (pay) or EASEUS Todo Backup (free).

They will also create a boot disc

Hi Guys
This is the situation It seems that I have balls it all up.I followed Gandalf's way which seemed logic
I tried to delete the recovery drive option (1) but it would not do it so I carried on with option (2) and created a data partition then option (3)which took me to microsoft recovery console which left me with a c:\prompt.I have now given up on this harddrive.I have been about 14 days trying to sort this out so I am in the middle of using partition genius to reformat the commplete drive and see what
happen then. buy a new hardhrive and windows xp discs
any way a BIG thanks to you all for your help
Kind Regards
Kimo
Ps I have not yet given up LOL
