At the moment my pc runs very slow .
The specs are:
Intel penitum 4 2.53 ghz
256mb ram
80gb hard drive
32mb onboard graphics

I am going to start by putting 1 gb of ram in it , will this speed it up ?
Can you recomend anything else to speed it up ?

The extra RAM will make a big difference, though when you say `speed it up` - in what respect? For general everyday activities or gaming?

just for every day use really, but when I turn the pc on it goes to the welcme screen on XP and it takes 3-4mins to load everything up, will the ram speed up the pc's start up. Thanks

Yes, your machine really only has 224mb as the onboard graphics is using 32mb. The physical memory is probably full by the time Windows has loaded and you're ready to actually use the computer.I'm assuming you've got Win XP, which works best with 512mb or more. You may want to cut the number of things loading with Windows too; click here

Defrag your hard-drive every so often ; click here

Go here for memory; click here
