Before i start, i dont know too much about computers and this computer i have i brought off a family member, in a hurry cuz i needed 1 urgently!! So i have a few niggly probs. Hopefully any of you kind people can solve.

Things over time have started to come a little slow.

Could somebody please guide me through steps on how to clear un-necessary clutter and crap that i dont need anymore.
I use defrag and disk cleanup frequently but want to clear the stuff that i dont know too much about.

Temp files, unused registries, left over unwanted files from deleated components and software etc etc.

Also its taking longer to boot up. I read the article in the latest mag about removing un-necessary start up programms from your system try etc but in all honesty i dont understand it and cant find the files they state to look for. Could somebody please help with an idiots guide to removing un-necessary start up progs?

Thanks

It really all depends on your OS, which I am assuming to be XP.

And if you give more details of your OS, your hardware etc someone may be able to offer a suggestion as to the best way forward.
