How to scan email attachments

Morning folks, can someone tell me how to scan email attachments with my own antivirus software please?(yahoo mail)When I right click the attachment there is no option to scan but when opening them they are usually scanned with Norton(which I don't have)Thanks.

What is your own AV?

Most decent ones should be scanning attachments already - an AV isn't much use if it doesn't, really.

If it says scanned by Norton, they will have been scanned by the sender.

My own antivirus is Avira.Graham that's what I thought.I would have thought there was a way to scan an attachment before actually opening it,is there not? Thanks.

If it's the free version of Avira - then it probably won't do that. You'll have to save the attachment first, then scan it.

See here what the free version of Avira doesn't do.

It's more comprehensive than free AVG - but free Avast is better.

If you want really good protection, with all the facilities, you are safer buying something.

If you read the docs for Avira free and Avira Premium - you'll find the Premium version includes "Mailguard" for checking emails - the free version doesn't have this.
