we have three old laptops with old versions of windows which have not been used for ages. they dont boot up properly anymore but may contain data which we would not want to be read by others. if i removed the hard drives would they still be any use to anybody? we also have a desktop wich has been replaced but it does still work, is there a way to remove all data but keep the operating system so that it can be recycled?
to destroy data on old hard drives I use GANDALF <|:-)>'s foolproof method. It hasn't let me down, ever.
If the old laptops are 'broke' and you don't want to spend money and/or effort trying to mend them take out the hard drives and belt 'em to a pulp then take the rest of laptop to the local electrical recycling tip.
