how to remove trojan

  cleggy 15:19 23 Feb 2005

eTrust AV (free version) keeps popping up the following:-
c:\system volume information\restore{1ECDAF7B-E276-4258-8067-2BBA1926186B}RP447\A0054979.exe is WIN32.BETTINEI.C TROJAN.
running the Etrust AV again doesn't find it, the recently installed MS antispy etc doesn't find it, search cant find any of it, when I go to System Volume Information it is empty, How do I stop it popping up. Its no prob to simply click on the X but if I leave the machine running it sometimes takes 3/4 clicks to clear.

Turn off system restore and scan again.

oops a typo
should read WIN32.BETTINET.C, all the rest is OK

Put that WIN32.BETTINET.C in google it looks like only etrust picks it up, maybe a false positive ?

If its in system restore files it Will just keep coming back as most AV prgs cannot delete /clean virus from restore files as they are protected by the operating system.

Switch off system restore this will delete all the restore points (and the virus ) up to this time. Rescan to ensure no longer being found then reset a restore point by switch system restore back on.

afternoon dadyassa, did as you suggested and got lots of stuff that didn't seem to help, lots of forums and log print outs. Please tell me 'what is a false positive'. I dont seem to have any probs with it its just the nuisance value I would like to remove

  cleggy 17:43 23 Feb 2005

hi fruitbat is it good to remove all restore points?

  curlylad 17:48 23 Feb 2005

It is not the best to remove all restore points but equally it is not the best to have a trojan infecting your system.I would be taking Fruit Bat/\0/\'s advice , turn off system restore then run your Anti Virus. When it has finished the scan and hopefully removed any nasties make sure to turn system restore back on again !

evening to all who suggested switching of restore and running anti virus, done it NO virus found will have to wait to see if eTrust AV pops the message up,

Thanks for your help
