How to put accent over text?

  User-2817D3FB-324D-4EF0-A1F3E24EA27877D1 18:21 15 Apr 2008

Greetings Friends,

I have been working on keyboards for over 50 years and never in all that time did I have to accentuate a letter of text... The character I wish to use is like a 'forward slash' in miniature which goes directly over the letter to be accentuated. Irish experts will know it as the 'fada'.
Much thanks in anticipation.

Symbols in Microsoft Word has all sorts of letters with all sorts of marks above them just waiting to be 'inserted'.

AltGr key and vowel, dont know about consonants

Try holding down Alt Gr and the letter you want.

PO79 got it right - the method only works with vowels.

If it's just the acute accent over the e you want as é then you just have to to hold Ctrl + Alt and type e.

For others you'll have to search for symbols.

You should find all you want here

Or you could go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map

for accents and more.

Many thanks folks. I never cease to marvel at
how helpful forumites are with answering problems.
It will probably be another 50 years (?) before I have to use the accentution again.

Much thanks.
