How to open attachment.

I have tried to open an attachment on an email and a window pops up saying : This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.
What does it mean and how do you do that?
I have got AVG professional, so I suppose it is safe to open that attachment, or is it?
Thank you.

What type of file is it?
right click it and select properties.

Its a XLS File (Excel spreadsheet file?)
If I need any spreadsheet programs to open the file, I haven't got any installed on my PC.
Unless I install microsoft worksuite 2001 that came with my other older PC. Is there any other way to open that file?

Excel Viewer click here

I suppose, after I download Excelviewer, it will open the attachment automatically when I click on it.

It should do. If it doesn't, save the attachment to your hard drive and double-click it to open it.

Thank you both for your help, it is much appreciated.

You could always try OpenOffice, which is a FREE suite similar to Microsoft Office. It should be able to open and save most files created by the latter (I say "should" because some of the most advanced features of MS Office are missing, but most people probably wont notice)

I have dowloaded Excelviewer, and it's working perfectly. Thanks anyway, Gaz.
