How much for my laptop?

  SirMetal 00:02 23 Aug 2010

Hey guys.

I am going to buy myself a MacBook Pro soon and I'm going to sell my current laptop.

How much do you think I can get for my laptop of the following specs?

HP G60
15.6inch 1366x768 display
Core 2 Duo @ 2.00GHz
GeForce 9200m 256MB
Linux Mint 9

Not got a clue as to how you would value it.
it cost about £350 new.
It is now 2nd hand with no warranty so my guess would be £100-£150 at the most.
maybe have a look on e-bay and see how much they go for.

look at click here for an idea of secondhand prices.

Having Linux on will knock £30 off the price.

Very risky buying a second hand Desktop or laptop from a private source.

GANDALF <|:-)> quite meant what he said...

I think it would be more accurate to say that NOT having Windows installed will reduce the market price. By £30 or so seems fair...

However If I recall previous posts from GANDALF <|:-)> on the subject of Linux accurately, maybe it was meant exactly as written!

Linux will not appeal to many people, so having it on a computer could reduce the price or the available market.

But I wasn't sure if it was the presence of Linux, or the absence of Windows that you were referring to...

If there were 2 identical laptops, one with Linux and the other with no operating system at all, would you say the Linux one had a lower market value?

That was my point... I wasn't sure if THAT was the point you were making!

It was all in jest anyway... and I think the moment has gone!

I think what he meant was the new user would probably want XP.Vista.or Windows 7 and they are not cheap to buy.
So the laptop would not be worth as much for someone wanting to use any of those Windows versions.

Sums it up for me.

OK, I'll start the bidding at £5.

£100 including the P+P.

Sorry to trump you Graham.
