How to move a .cda audio file

I need to move an audio file (.cda) from a cdrom to my hard disk (copy / paste). Each time I try it appears to have copied but rather than the 8meg file I was expecting it's only a 44byte file that (obviously) won't open. I can move MP3 files around but not cda files. What am I doing wrong.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

P.S. Before the 'holier-than-thou' types jump in, the file is of a generator running and is not copyrighted.

The .cda "file" is only a sort of "handle". To do what you want, you should rip/extract the file to another format, such as WAV.

Your MP3 program should be able to that for you.
