How long until...

...a domain name is available for sale once it has expired. I am trying to obtain a domain name and it comes up as not available. However, it has expired and WHOIS information says:
Relevant dates:
Registered on: 20-Mar-2004
Renewal date: 20-Mar-2006
Last updated: 02-May-2005

Registration status:
Renewal required.

Haven't got the link to hand but the information you require is somewhere on the Nominet site.

From memory (which you shouldn't trust!) I think that it was two periods of thirty days: thirty days grace for the original owner to reregister then a thirty day suspension period (when presumably no-one can register but it didn't make it clear).

Seem to recall there being a 'random' period once all other deadlines had passed before a domain became available. This was done to give the domain a chance to return to the open market and prevent anyone trying to watch domain names passing certain dates. If this is still the case or not I couldn't tell you...but am sure fourm member's linke will!
