How do we locate the rest of your post with the details of your laptop/pc/OS ?

Skype will launch the webcam automatically (or it should do).

Search for and download AMCAP.

It should detect any webcam and give you the ability to activate it when you want to.

PS. You can't just open a webcam you need a program to do it for you. You should see an icon for it in Control Panel\Devices and Printers.

Then what are you using the webcam for?

  rdave13 13:56 16 Nov 2013

I've just downloaded Debut Video Capture Software from the free version link here. I unticked the boxes for their toolbar, DVD burner, file converters etc and just installed the tiny program. As I don't have a web cam it showed the desktop 'live' as it were. I then uninstalled it. Worth a look to see if its something you're looking for.

I am in control panel and devices and printers now but there is no icon for web cam there. There was a icon on the desktop but it is not there now
