How to keep monitor on to work with it?

  neil_raj 19:57 18 Aug 2005

Hi there:
How can fix my PC and test for faults etc if the startup process cannot give me a monitor to work with.... I have some serious issues with my PC but it just tries to boot then shuts down.

What can I do to keep the monitor on to enable me to fix anything?

Thanks........... Neil.

could be a number of possibilities Neil

monitor could be duff

software could also be damaged

your pc settings may also need to be rechecked

you could try another working monitor - buy a cheap second hand one or borrow one from a friend

lend yours to a friend and see if he can use yours on his pc

hope this check list helps

Does it get anwhere into the boot screen at all? are you hearing any beeps and if so what number and lenth? plus what is the mothervoard or bios type?

Can you boot to the bios?

If the PC can't do this then there would be no point in having monitor on anyway as there would be nothing to see.

Have you tried to boot in safe mode?

Yea... it boots in safe mode, then what do I do.... what / where do I go to see what the problem is?

Thanks.... Neil.

Have you used scan disk in safe mode?

Also you could go to System Information in Accessories click on Tools then System File Checker.
