How to join several word documents to make one

I have numerous separate Word documents that I would like to add together to make just one document.

I appreciate I could use copy and paste but is there a quicker way?

Start a new document, Insert > file as many times as needed to add all the documents.

sorry If I have done wrong in re-opening this subject. I am wanting to do the same thing as JayDay
my problem is that when I insert the "Word file" it does not seem to insert what is in the "Header and Footer" is this the norm or am I missing something?

Not surprising. I think you need to add a section break in order to change the header\footer from that point forward.

Go to the Help option and type in Change Headers
