How to install MS word CD onto Notebook

  emmandelo1 20:01 08 Jul 2010

Hi, I have a new notebook which obviously doesn't have a CD drive. I have MS Word on a CD that I want to install on to the notebook. I also have a desktop and an external hard drive. Is there any way I can copy the CD onto the external hard drive and then install it onto the notebook from there?

Not normally easy to copy a CD, for obvious reasons.

See if you can beg borrow or buy and external optical drive.

I thought that might be the case. No harm in asking. I might well revert to Open Office.

I copied my MS Office CD to a USB drive and installed it from there. It should be easy enough.

I did exactly the same as Ian in Northampton and used a USB stick for Office and a number of other programmes such as Roxio Creator. No problem at all, in fact I even installed Windows7 using the same trick.

Something learned!

I learned it the hard way when I got a netbook and needed to add things in a hurry. I have never tried it on a PC that has a DVD drive but I suppose it would work if the boot device order can be set up to make it look for a USB device first. I guess that netbooks are set up that way by default.
