How to get data from a HDD that has failed

  newface 21:49 28 Jan 2004

Does anyone know of an easy and inexpensive way of recovering data from a HDD that has stopped working? Thanxs

If the drive has stopped working then no method will be either "easy and inexpensive"

The only way that is "easy and inexpensive" is to use your backups....

In what way has the rive "stopped working"?

Who has confirmed its definately dead?

Other than fitting it as a slave and trying to recover from that then I don't think it's possible on the cheap. My understanding is that recovery firms dismantle the disk in a clean roon environment and fit the platters to new controllers to try and extract the data hence the cost. There are some other disk repair tools available though.

To repeat Jester2K - in what way has it stopped working??

this is sooo embarassing. The problem turned out to be a duff battery. I paid £1.99 for a new one, installed it, and hey presto! problem fixed.

we all live and learn in this world, i think this is one of those cases.
