I'm running XP home and have configured the backup utility from the XP CD
It works OK whilst accepting that you cannot backup direct to a CD but via a copy of the backup file on the HD(or desktop)
Its a Windows utility yet when you click on the file to 'open' or 'explore' you are told 'Windows cannot open this file' .bkf as it doesn't recognise it.....does anyone know how you can open a .bkf file ?....all suggestions welcomed

Thanks rawprawn this is an obvious path to follow but it hadn't dawned on me !!
A solution to viewing the contents of a *.bkf file is to select System Tools, backup, then system restore. The system restore wizard presents all the backup files in chronological order & you can browse the one you want for the contents as if you were going to make a selection to restore
A word of warning to 'googling' the problem there are many & various programmes suggested to download.....regfix, regcure etc all supposed to help you open a *.bkf file...I'm not sure they will help
