I need to update my BIOS as it will not recognise my new 120gb hard drive. How do I update and what do I need to do?My current Bios info is:BIOS Date: 07/29/99BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.60PGABIOS ID: 07/29/1999-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LEF09COEM Sign-On: Version 1.15JI38Chipset: VIA 82C597 rev 4Superio: Winbond 877TF (use 87h) rev 0 found at port 3F0hOS: WinXPCPU: AMD-K6 400 Mhz MAX: 400 MhzBIOS ROM In Socket: YesBIOS ROM Size: 128KMemory Installed: 128 MBMemory Maximum: 768 MBMemory Slot 01: 64 MBMemory Slot 02: 64 MBMemory Slot 03: 0 MB
go to the motherboard's manufacturer website
Award Bios updates aren't free and they are not handled by the manufacturer, they have been farmed out to a 3rd party. They will offer you a 'chip upgrade' almost for the same price as a software upgrade.
This is the link to Phoenix, which took over Award, where you'll find info etc on Award's Bios product:click here
Hi sobeitjedi. From the BIOS number I was able to identify the motherboard make and model.2A5LEF09CThe 2A5LE tells me that the chipset is VIA Apollo (M)VP3. The FO tells me that the motherboard is by FIC, and that it is a Fic VA503 or Fic PA-2012 or FIC VA-503+ or FIC PA-2013 click here. With this information I went to the FIC site and found that you can download BIOS software as well as a load of other useful information. click here
