How do I save an email in my Windows documens file

When I click on "save as" in my inbox and enter 2My ", the email appears in my Word 2000 file BUT although I can access it I am unable to change anything in the email. It appears it is a "read only" file. How do I save it in Word so that I can make changes etc before sending it on? Many thanks.

Highlight the body of the email and then right click mouse and copy. Next open a new Word doc., place cursor in main body , right click and paste and save it.

If I read correctly, I highlight the text I want to save and paste it into a new word document, which I can 'save as'. Then I can alter it and attach it to an email to send off.
