How do I know if my AV is actually working?

  Halmer 10:44 09 Jul 2006

I've had problems with both PCs this week click here but eventually got mine going.

My local expert reckons that I may have got a virus (don't know how)even though nothing's been reported.

I've just run the Symantec on line check and it tells me that the PC is clean.

However, when I ran the Symantec online security check it is reporting that I have no AV even though I have free AVG and the little coloured icon is showing in the bottom rhc.

Any ideas please?

try this test

The files will set off your antivirus but they are completly harmless so dont panic if your A/V detects it.

If your A/V doesnt detect them then somethings wrong.

Lets face it you've used another companies programs to do a check so its hardly surprising it doesn't detect AVG. Probably it won't detect a lot of other makes as well.
I wouldn't worry about it. Try wolfie3000s test and check that your emails have the AVG check at the bottom and you'll know its working.
