Please could someone tell me (or point me to instructions) on how to install my OS and SATA HDD onto my Asus A8N ?

I switch on the PC with the Windows XP CD in the drive but the Windows setup won't start ?

On boot up I get the OK beep , the splash screen offering me Bios setup, if I do nothing it offers me RAID setup - but I only have one HDD so I do nothing and it just goes into the Bios ?

My Samsung 250GB SATA2 Disk is listed in the Bios.

I'm lost.....please help !

1. at the splash screen offering Bios setup, enter BIOS and change the Boot order to 1st CD rom 2nd HDD
(probably under advance features menu)

2. save and exit BIOS (F10)

3. boot with the CD in the drive Ignore all messages about raid drivers and the setup disk should give you the option to format the drive and install XP. Just follw the on screen prompts.

If you can't get this far post back here any problems you are having

Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\ ,

CD rom is the first boot device - in fact I've now made it the only boot device!
Raid is disabled & sata is enabled.
The drive is connected to the correct port (sata 1)

I just can't get the windows cd to start the setup ?
I just end up back in the Bios - URGH !

Does the CD actually run?

Do you get the message at the bottom of the first screen "Press any key to boot from CD"

The dvdrw led lights up but nothing ? I don't get "Press any key to boot from CD" ?

The DVDRW drive is new and I've tried 2 different windows cds.

Why don't I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" ? prompt please ?

The DVD drive is not seeing a bootable CD in the drive.

Does the DVD drive show up on the first screen ( in BIOS)

In BIOS set the all IDE to Auto detect

Maybe the DVD drive is duff, even though it's new. Have you an old CD/DVD drive you can try.

The dvd drive is indeed listed in the bios but I will swap it with another to see if that makes any difference ?

Set the bios to boot fron cdrom 1st, sata 2nd or if no sata option, set to boot from scsi as 2nd.

Load the sata drivers onto a floppy from the motherboard driver cd, during setup you will be asked if you wish to boot from scsi by pressing f6, have the floppy disk ready to insert at this point.

Fruit Bat /\0/All IDEs are set to Auto and the drive is recognised?
