How do I get the PC to switch its self off?

I have upgraded my neighbour’s computer to XP Home. (from 98SE).
When I select TURN OFF, the machine begins to power down with the relevant messages appearing on the screen as it does so. But then a final message appears on the screen:
‘It is now safe to turn off the computer’.
I then have to press the PC power button to switch off.

How do I set the PC to complete the TURN OFF cycle, without having to actually press the button to end the power down?

right click an empty bit of the screen and properties. Then screen saver and click the power button and then the second tab put a tick in the box.

I had the same problem with a older computer I put xp on from 98se.

You need to go CONTROL PANEL >> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE >> POWER OPTIONS >> APM >> ENABLE ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT.

This is what worked for me.
