how do I get cortana on lumia 920 smart phone

  Banky2 14:47 22 Jan 2015

I have a windows 8.1 smart phone and have failed to activate Cortana even though it is being advertised on UK TV. My provider T-Mobile checked with Nokia and admitted it was a known problem but told me I just need to do a factory reset and try again. I still can't activate it and T-Mobile says they can't help with 3rd party software and I can't find any Nokia person-to-person support. Can anyone help me please?

Check settings, applications that Cortana is on. Also check settings, battery saver, and under 'usage' that Cortana is allowed to run in the background. Tap Cortana once to be able to change the settings.

The lady was using my battery too much so I've had to disable it.

I have the 520 and had the update a while ago. With T-Mobile/EE.

After a bit of looking around it would appear my provider 02 are saying end January or first quarter of 2015 for Cortana on majority of their Lumia phones

Windows phones updated via wi-fi I assume and not through your phone provider? Got my update about a fortnight ago. I assume from Microsoft.

If you are going to use Cortana be sure to check your battery usage.

yeah microsoft but looking on the 02 forums every provider has to make the coding for work with their phone,if its an unlocked phone theres no problems,it would appear 02 have cortana on some lumia phones yet the 925,930 etc are still waiting

It was installed as an automatic update on my Lumia 520 a few weeks back. I have a SIM only unlocked and currently with Vodafone.

mart7 , chub_tor's reply answers the question. I'm also on an unlocked/sim only phone.

If Banky2 doesn't mind a bit of a hijack of his thread, I'd like to ask chub_tor what the battery usage is if using Cortana?
