How do I find out which memory I need?

My brother wishes to upgrade the memory on his computer, but he does not know what sort it needs. He has looked on the chips and they are unbranded and the serial number gets us nowhere. The computer was built by someone at home so is not a manufactured machine. The processor is a Duron 1.3 ghz if this helps and we cant see any brand name on the motherboard either. There is two memory slots. How can we find out what sort of memory it needs?

Hi vaughan007.
Download this handy tool from here, click here
It will tell you all about the system spec's.
Then go to this address, click here and type in the motherboards manufacter and follow the steps to find out which memory the board needs.
