how do I disable startup items in xp?

My mate has a new computer with xp installed, I still run win98. He has a programme that runs at startup that he uses but does'nt want to run at start up. Under options we can't find any to " do not launch when windows starts" type of thing, so what I would normally do in win98 is disable it under the system configuration tab. But I cant seem to find such a thing in xp (I've never played with xp yet). Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me a command line to take me there. Cheers from two thickos!
