Have you checked device manager? Any devices with ? or ! next to them.

......... Are there any speakers?

Does the BIOS show any onboard sound?
Does control panel > systems > hardware, show anything under "Sound"?

You say there are holes for speakers to be plugged in. At the back of the computer?

Does the monitor have built-in speakers?

Sorry about so many questions but answers to these may give an idea of what best to do.

i went into device manager and there were 3 yellow question marks 1 was called multimedia (from what i can remember) i uninstalled them restarted and it couldnt install them for some reason.

How do you mean BIOS

Possibly F2 or the delete key on startup will get you into the bios, here you can check if sound is enabled.

Do you have the motherboard cd drivers,if so try these to install the sound.

i have one which says HP service pack 2 restore only

  skidzy 18:15 12 Feb 2007

You do not need the sp2 restore disc if only the sound driver is missing.

Run Belarc to find what soundcard is fitted or if onboard sound click here look under multimedia.

Post back the details and we will try to find a driver for you.

Ok Lee,can you download and run SIW and post the details for the motherboard. click here this should give us the correct chipset and maybe we can find a driver for the sound.
