  vinnyobee 07:04 26 Mar 2011

I have a laptop with a non-working screen,I have connected an external screen and when I first boot up it shows the xp window then straight after that the screen goes blank, I know the graphic card is ok because I have Ubuntu installed and I can get that to appear on the external monitor and I can use the laptop as normal, its just xp I need,I have gone into the bios and I can`t do anything, any suggestions please, thanks in advance.

As youm have Ubuntu installed and working, the laptop and screen must be OK, therefore the fault lies with the XP progran.
Can you re-install it.

Start the PC and press F8 repeatedly to get the Advanced Startup Menu. Choose "Enable VGA Mode". This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode by using the current video driver (not Vga.sys). This mode is useful if the display is configured for a setting that the monitor cannot display. In display properties you should then be able to reduce the refresh rate for the monitor or set a lower resolution.
