How to defrag "C"

How do I defrag my main drive "C"?
All the other drives can be "defrag" but not "c".
System is XP with all the updates.

When I try to defrag "c" I get - "Please run Chkdsk /F."
When I try to run chkdsk ( without f) I get a warning no /f parameter.
If I try to run it with /f it just flashes a box (too quick to see details).

Any suggestions will be welcome.

do you have at least 15% free space on the drive as you need this amount for defrag to work.
this is the area it uses to sort the files.

To run chkdsk, go to Start > Run and type in CMD and click OK. When the black screen appears, type in: chkdsk /f and press the Return key on your keyboard. It will tell you that C: drive is in use and ask if you want to schedule chkdsk to run at the next boot up, choose yes.

My Computer > Local Disk (C) > Properties > Tools > Error Checking > I would check both Options, but that is very time consuming.

Before doing that I would clear my Recycle Bin and the Temp Internet Files.

You might also see if that route to Defrag works more easily.
