can anyone tell me if its possible to create a standby shortcut on the desktop & how to do it? running windows 98se

Probably the easiest way is to change your keyboard. Most modern keyboards have sleep, wake up, and power buttons to do what you want.

I don't know of any command to do that.

thanks for your reply, didnt think it could be done, have looked everywhere for a shortcut for this, just thought I'd try the helproom as usually the there's someone clever enough to come up with a solution to any question that's asked.

There's no shortcut to standby in Win98, there are shortcuts to, logoff, power off,
and shutdown.

If your system supports it (ACPI), you can configure your system to go into
standby when you hit the Power Button on your system - go to Control Panel Power Management \ Advanced tab.

Theres third party tools available that do the job but Windows 98 does not support it.
