how can I remove TABS

I would like to remove the tabs functionon my windows XP as every time I want to shut down A WINDOW iam asked if I would like to shut down the tabs and then it shuts down IE and I have to reload the IE again is there any way I can remove the tabs to stop this happening postie

Press Ctrl+W to close an individual tab, using that combo if you only have one tab will close IE itself.
Or do you mean, it tries to close the whole lot every time regardless?

internet>option>tabbed browsing
enable or disable tabbed browsing requires restart of ie7
sounds like your clicking x top right instead of x tab from toolbar though?

as *Raven* says, click on the x on the tab
(It is grey until you get near it with the mouse pointer then it turns red)

Or right click a Tab and choose close
