How to add 500Gb drive to home network?

  Dalglish2 21:28 09 Aug 2008

I have a USB2.0 Western Digital hard drive connected to my desktop and I would like to be able to access its contents from a laptop. Both the desktop and laptop are configured as part of my home network.
How do I set things up to enable me to access files on the external drive?

goto my computer, right click on the device (assuming you have xp) click on sharing and security and then allow the device to be shared and if you would like the device to be mofied t hen do not tick the box underneath the computer access it you have to know the computer name (right click on the my computer icon on the desktop then properties then computer name tab) then to access it use \\computername\harddrive or you could map the device on the laptop explained here - click here
