Hotmail/Outlook Express

Microsoft have just told me that it will no longer be possible to access Hotmail via Outlook Express from 30 june 2008.

They've proffered Windows Live Mail as an alternative.

Anyone using it already as a preference?

In theory Windows Live Mail is a good idea. However, to me the biggest drawback is that the Contacts (mail recipients) are merged into one file, so if you have mail accounts for specific purposes, you will have to set up a convoluted grouping system. The grouping was too labour-intensive for me to do so I have stuck with my years-old multi-systems. I also found that there is a lot of messing around if you use different signatures for different accounts.

Just received the same email, looks like its the end of Hotmail as we know it. Thanks for letting us know. David

Is it possible to access my pop3 mail from Virginmedia via LiveMail?

I don't know much about Virgin but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Give it a try.

Providing you keep your original Inbox from OE you can import/export back and forth between OE, WM and WLM. You may, of course, lose one or two that come through during your manipulations.

I must experiment with it - cheers, BurrWalnut.
