I seem to have completely messed up my HOST file. I would like to delete it completely and replace it with another. I cannot use System restore or Acronis Backup as I don't know when the problem first occurred, If someone could explain what I should do I will be oblijed.

You may need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders:

1. Click Start.
2. Click My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click Yes to confirm.
7. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Click OK.

Then find

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

and delete it.

Download a new hosts click here

Restart your PC.

Thanks VoG™, I was having problems yesterday with MSGTAG and found it was being blocked by the Hosts file. Unfortunately I somehow messed up and I was not sure what to do. I have deleted and replaced as you suggested then opened it and deleted references to MSGTAG. All seems OK now thank you.
