Hosts file infected

I am running AVG Internet Security 7.5 with all the latest updates. Upon running a full scan, AVG identified a virus infecting the Hosts file. I removed it to the virus vault for cleaning but a pop-up showed that the entry could not be cleaned because there was “not enough information known”. I restored the Hosts file and opened it and it shows 47 entries below the “127.0.0.1 localhost” entry, mostly antivirus sites. I know little about the Hosts file but I read somewhere that these entries should not be there. Should I delete them? A full scan by AVG shows no evidence of any other infection.
