The horrible NET Framework download

  guesswho2 17:38 31 Jan 2009

I fell into the trap and downloaded this huge file yesterday, since whenthe cursor has been jiggling about the screen and is almost impossible to control.
I stupidly omitted to make a Restore Point before the download so that I can't get back to square one.
And because there is such a long string of entries for the updates in Add/Remove that I wouldn't dare begin to uninstall them.
Could someone who understands these things please come in and advise how I may undo the effects of this update.

Did you downloaded the file from Microsoft site? If so then MS automatically create a restore point prior to installation. Check your restore points and hopefully you will find a restore point is created for you.

Right, thanks zarobian. Now I see that there are 2 entries for restore points yesterday:
16.11.52 Software Distribution Service 3.0, and
17.14.07 Software Distribution Service 3.0
Can you explain which to go for?

Try any one of these,if does not solve the problem then undo restore and try the other one.

I have myself downloaded Microsoft.NET Framwork SP1 3.5 this morning. It is ok. I checked in the control panel there is only one entry for it!!!
My OS is Vista Home Premium

Hi zarobian, before I have a go at System Restore, I wonder if you have any comment to make about my entries in Add/Remove about this.
NET Framework 2.0 ServicePack2 - 185MB
followed by 10 entries
NET Framework 3.0 ServicePack2 - 179MB
followed by 11 entries
NET Framework 3.5 SP1 - 28.05MB
followed by 2 Hotfix entries.
Did you anything like that?

  zarobian 18:27 31 Jan 2009

You mentioned that you have a long string of updates. That is correct. What you should be looking for:
Microsoft .NET Framwork SP1 3.5, there should be only one entry for it in the Add/Remove.

I have uninstalled the dreaded NET framework as it caused problems on mine as well.
Just highlight NET Framework 3.5 SP1, it is the one with 28.05mb's, then click remove and it will also remove any hot fixes for it.

  zarobian 18:31 31 Jan 2009

No I have only one entry and that is:
Microsoft .NET Framwork 3.5 SP1

  guesswho2 18:34 31 Jan 2009

Yes, there's only one entry for NET Framework SP1 at 28.05MB, followed by the 2 hotfix entries.
Do you have the same large number of entries before that one, as I previously described?

  guesswho2 18:43 31 Jan 2009

Hi alan2273, what kind of problems have you had?
And have you retained NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 Service Packs?

  guesswho2 20:02 31 Jan 2009

Hi zarobian and alan.
Have uninstalled NET Framework 3.5 SP1. run CCleaner and rebooted. No effect. Cursor all over the screen.
