Homeplug compatibility question

A year or more back I bought a Linksys AV Homeplug starter kit from PC World. I now need an additional adapter but they no longer sell the Linksys ones. I rang their tech helpline and was told that an extra single adapter of a different make would not work with my existing Linksys ones. This seems at odds with the information elsewhere and on this website. I could go and buy another Linksys starter kit but at nearly £50 I would rather buy a single adapter if it will work. Yes, I know I'm tight, but am on a pension :o) Anyone else done mix-n-match on homeplugs? PCW wanted me to buy a wifi booster or extender but I've not looked at those. Any help appreciated.

There are a number of different technologies used in the home plug market, but Linksys is a well known maker, I am sure that there will be other stockists carrying them look for a model number from you present units then use Google to search for stockist
