home page hijacked

  gerryp25 20:43 03 Feb 2008

Hi I am trying to help a friend to sort out his home page, Every time he logs on the web page that appears is http/count.cc/ which said the site was not configered and underneath were 3 words, cracks, serial keygen, I clicked on them and a web page popped up all about key generators, passwords etc.
I clicked on the address line and deleted it and using internet tools made Bt internet his new home page, applied and OK'd it. When we diconnected and re-connected the count.cc page was there again. Tried altering it twice but both times it changed back to count.cc.
Any ideas anyone?

My suggestion is Download and Run
1) spybot
2) adaware
30 AVG anti virus.

Aftr you made BT his home page, then correctly clicked Apply and OK did you restart the computer. I don't know if a restart was required, but it may be a problem solver. Otherwise *Raven* and Ivor_Monkey's suggestions are completely right.

Thank you for all your replies, I don't know the name of his anti virus but I saw a Large V, may have been Virusguard. I will work through your suggestions when I next see him.
Thanks again
