Ok so i now have a basic netowrk wirlessly with the vista laptop and xp laptop able to share files

this is the problem tho

to share a 10gb music folder from vista to xp i would have to copy the file and then put it in
start>netowrk>othermachine>shareddocs folder

to me this is pretty inefficient, isnt there just a more simple way where for example the user on the other machine could just enter a password and access folders on this machine such as music etc.... because atm aswell there is no password set either :s

thanks very much

If you have File Sharing set up on both machines you can just drag and drop the file from the folder on one machine to the folder on the other.

yeh but a 10gb folder would take ages?

You don't have to transfer the file if you don't want to as both PCs are networked. Provided that both users have Administrtor rights to access the file you can just as easily listen to the music by opening the file from either machine. You obviously have to have both machines switched on of course.
