Holes in webpages

Some of you will be very aware of me, and problems with IE7 in Vista.... Anyway..

Having suddenly had much trouble with IE7. and being unable to open lots of webpages, I finally found that IE security was barring lots of them.
Reducing security levels, restored most. However...having restored IE7 to it's original settings, I am now getting this symptom.

When I open certain webpages, I get several boxes within it where images clearly go, but instead, are bearing the information that 'IE cannot connect to this website'.
This means that they link to other websites for the particular images, even though the current website page content is fine.
Turning off 'popup blocker' does not change things.
Even the Amazon website has these holes in the page, so I don't suspect rogue sites.

Anyone found similar symptoms?

Todays Vista updates, caused a locked up computer on restart. Suspect an IE7 update was the cause of all other problems too.
