Hit counter code? is it possible?

  barryoneoff.co.uk 01:42 28 Jun 2003

I have a counter on my home page, I also have access to all site statistics, but...

I need to add a counter to one other page. All the free counters that I checked after a Google search seem to be combined with stats, and have to be on the home page.

I dont want to interfere with my web hosts CGI counter, so I dont really want to link to another CGI provider. Is there any piece of code I can insert into a single page (not the home page) that will let me know how many visitors have been to that particular page. I know I can get the information from my site stats but I dont want the palaver every time I want to know the numbers.

Cheers, Whiz...

It is possible... [ click here for example ] but that's done with mySQL and PHP I think.

Whether a conventional counter can be placed there, I'm not sure.

but I forgot the most obvious place. Just went to Bravenet, will try theirs first.

hi barry

just add that into your html

This page has been accessed - <IMG SRC="/zisp/counter?ID=10&STYLE=5"> - times

as long as your server supports front page extensions then it will be fine

make sure the counter id is different for each page

There is nothing "bad" about having stats about how often or in what way your site has been visited. The "bad" part is people who choose to display the number of visitors they have had to their site as if it were some form of competition.

Many webmasters will use detailed statisics to help with the design of the site (see which bits aren't found and see if its because of bad navigation etc) and to see where entry and exit points of the site are.

Just collecting a number of visitors doesn't do much apart from boost your ego.

There is a reason for the counter on this particular page. I just didn't want it to conflict with my other site statistics. The Bravenet one works fine alongside it.
Cheers all, Whiz...
