hide inactive icons

In win xp, right click on taskbar, then properties and a menu comes up to hide inactive icons, even though it is set to hide them it doesn't, can any one help please, thanks.
dont know what I did but just stopped working

now you need use the OS normally.
the "hide inactive icons" means that the OS would calculate the total time of a software who has a icon on the trayvbar.

do not warry about your question.perhaps after a few days,if icon on the traybar is not be used for a long time(about a few days),the OS would hide it automatically.
